USB Thingee Specs?

Post by bjh » Tue Mar 04, 2014 10:16 am

Recently I wanted to recommend a USB Thingee on a audio forum but couldn't remember the basic specifications (bits and sampling rates) so off I went to the BC Poo-poo-ganda page and ... not even mentioned unless I'm really senile and somehow missed it.

There was a link to a GoodSounds review ... no luck, not mentioned in review!

Didn't make the recommendation...

Yes, it handles up to 16/48.

Hey BJH,

Your response to garyj sounded like it came from one of those Audio Asylum posts...did you forget where you were?? :D

Hey guys-- is anyone out there using one of these USB Thingees to stream on Tidal? I just got the service and my son keeps stealing the dragonfly so I need another DAC. Tidal can stream in hi res so I'm concerned about the Thingee being 16/48 whereas 24/96 seems to be the standard. Yes, I've read the reviews and although I don't yet own any BC gear I'm dying to try it out.

How much of a difference am I going to hear?

Made sense to piggy-back on this 2 year old thread rather than start a new one.

Hello and welcome to the BC forum!

Tidal does not stream Hi Resolution, only CD quality (and only while you use Chrome or similar browser).

The USB Thingee is designed to manage that bit rate.

Cheers,

Mmmm, you're right, just saw a Wiki article that confirms this. I am using Chrome with it. Sounds really good with the Dragonfly; I expect it will sound even better with a Thingee DAC. Gonna order one. I'll post the difference in sound once I try it out.

When I read 'HIFi' my brain registered 'Hi Res", I guess.
